It feels so weird to be starting a blog of my own (scary too). A little bit about myself... I have taught 2nd grade now for going on 5 years. It's the only grade I have ever taught but that's fine by me. When I was a 2nd grader I decided that I would be a 2nd grade teacher someday so hey... dreams come true! I interviewed for the Kindergarten position at my school and at the very end of the interview they said, "Hey, we also have a 2nd grade position available, if you got to pick, what would you choose"? Well my first thought fresh out of college was just "ANY JOB", but I did say I lean towards 2nd and luckily that is what they gave me.
I teach in a growing community. It is busting at the seams and therefore we have run out of classrooms in the building, so I was pushed outside in a "stick built" 2 years ago. To clarify, a stick built is basically a glorified trailer or sometimes referred to as a "cottage". Anyways, where I teach inspired the name of my blog, "Stickin' with Second Grade". Now when I say trailer home, please understand- when I get done with that room it looks like your normal 2nd grade classroom. There is just the challenges of bathroom/specials inside the building. We get lots of fresh air!
I got married in October 2011 to my wonderful, patient, and understanding husband Jesse. He's just the best. He will come in and read to my students every year a few different times and they absolutely love him. We met back when I was working in the floral shop at a grocery store and he was in the dairy dept. That's another thing about me... I worked in a floral shop for 7 years before becoming a teacher. It was a great job and I learned many skills.
The Mr. & I on our wedding day. We had to stop by the place where it all started. |
We had our first child in August. A little girl who we named Grace (a name inspired by a cabbage patch doll I had when I was a little girl and a favorite student my 2nd year in). She's just the best. It was a eye opener for me to have to re-balance my life and quit thinking school 24/7 and start thinking baby but I did it and I love it! Which is why I blog and create materials during nap and bedtime :)
At the end of the school year I found myself having so many different ideas and different thoughts that I needed some sort of outlet, thus finally getting the nerve to start a blog!
Well that's me in a nutshell. I hope you keep coming back for more!
